FAQ

What kind of information services does Information Technology provide?

Information Technology is the City’s information technology department, handling the internal technology infrastructure and employee technical concerns. This means Information Technology makes sure the proper network infrastructure, servers, desktop and laptops are in place for the city employees to do their daily jobs. Information Technology also provides training opportunities for City employees to brush up on their software and computer technical skills, utilizing online content, providing training sessions in-house, and directing employees to local computer training centers when appropriate.

Does Information Technology have any training opportunities for students?

Information Technology offers several different types of non-paid internship opportunities. For the past several years Tech Support has worked with interns from GISD high school computer classes as well as adult interns who had been working on or completed technical certification courses. These internships provide the opportunity to work in a technical environment as part of the IT team, answering help desk calls, participating in research and development, and assisting in various aspects of computer maintenance and troubleshooting.

When was the division of Information Technology formed?

The division of Information Technology was formed in 1997.
